Viking Line actively contributes to the work of protecting the Baltic Sea by supporting environmental organisations operating in the area in different ways.
Our environmental responsibility is visible in many ways in the daily life on board. The coffee grown on Viking Line's ships is organically grown. The fish served also comes from sustainable sources recommended by Miljöstyrningsrådet in Sweden.
At Viking Line, we have chosen to work in partnership with a number of environmental organisations for sustainable travel.
... the protection of the nature of our unique archipelago and Baltic Sea scientific research. We want to emphasise the advantage of working directly with environmental organisations and environmental scientists, as they work purposefully to achieve visible and tangible results in the local environment. Together we can achieve more!
Pidä Saaristo Siistinä ry (Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association) is a national environmental organisation in Finland for all boaters and people who travel in and around Finnish waterways. All operations are aimed at keeping the archipelago and the Finnish marine environment tidy. The association promotes and looks for solutions to make boating and other water activities as well as harbour operations more environmentally-friendly.
We support the work of Finland's largest Baltic Sea research centre, Tvärminne Zoological Station. Located in a nature reserve in Hankoniemi, the station is part of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences of the University of Helsinki. The station conducts high-quality biological research, which focuses on the diversity and ecosystems of the Baltic Sea and the ways in which human activity affects changes in the sea and climate.
The goal of the John Nurminen Foundation, founded in 1992, is to save the Baltic Sea and its heritage for future generations. Our projects will improve the state of the Baltic Sea by reducing pressures on the sea and environmental problems such as eutrophication and habitat loss. Our foundation's mission is also to cherish, enliven and convey stories and cultural heritage related to the sea. Our work is guided by results and effectiveness. The foundation's activities are primarily financed through donations and grants.
The goal of the Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) is to restore the Baltic Sea to a sound ecological state against the backdrop of changing environmental conditions. BSAG brings together actors from the fringes of politics, research and business life.
