Like all workplaces, the ship has its own set of rules that you, as a new employee, cannot be expected to know. The work pace is intense, and you are surrounded by people around the clock, which places certain demands on you. Work and community life must function regardless of what happens at home or on board.
The following things are good to keep in mind:
- Private phones do not belong in the workplace. You should make your calls during breaks and without disturbing others, such as your cabin mate.
- When you have used crew facilities, you must clean up after yourself. This applies, for example, to the mess hall, gym, day room, and laundry room.
- Shared equipment should be cared for in the best way, for example, gym equipment, cabin equipment, work clothes, games, and books.
- Report immediately if you notice something is wrong, such as broken lights or dripping faucets.
- You may spend time in passenger areas during your free time, but remember that the customer always comes first and that you constantly represent Viking Line.
- When shopping in the tax-free shop, you should always wear civilian clothes and avoid rush hours. Some ships have special times designated for crew ("slabb").
- You may use slot machines provided you are in civilian clothes. Casino gambling is prohibited.
Onboard, crew members live in single or double cabins. If you share a cabin, you must respect each other's rest times and agree on common rules for the cabin. Please move as quietly as possible in the cabin and the corridors. Due to different working hours, there are always crew members who need to sleep.
Onboard, you will come into contact with different types of people, and you cannot choose who you work or share a cabin with. You don't need to share the same opinions, but you do need to respect each other and their opinions.
