The recruiter will inform you of the arrival time at the terminal - please arrive in good time. At the terminal, you will receive a Visitor card with which you can pass through security control. To obtain a Visitor card, you must have a valid ID with you.
The Visitor card must be swiped through a reader at security control and is only valid for one use. If you go ashore during port time during your work shift, for example, you can pass security control again by swiping the crew card you receive from the purser.
The employment relationship begins only after you have signed the employment contract. Therefore, go directly to the purser's office when you come aboard. The purser is the personnel manager onboard. Ask for help at the information desk if you cannot find the purser and mention that you are starting work onboard. Then, verify that all information in the employment contract is accurate.
From the purser, you will receive a crew card, cabin key, and a schedule showing where and when you will work.
You register as a crew member by placing your crew card against the card reader. After this, the card functions as an access card to crew areas. The purser will inform you of the location of these card readers. All crew areas are equipped with code locks.
You collect work clothes from the clothing storage. Some staff members may change in the terminal, but you will be informed about this during the recruitment process, if applicable. Please note that work clothes may vary within the same department, depending on the unit you are scheduled to work in. Therefore, have your schedule at hand when collecting work clothes.
Greet your supervisor upon arrival at the workplace. Always keep track of your schedule so that you take meal breaks at the designated time (not everyone has meal breaks at the same time) and change departments at the right time. Most people have different schedules, and therefore, no one will tell you to change departments or go on a meal break; you must keep track of this yourself. You may also need to change work clothes when changing departments. The first time you come aboard, you will have a mentor who shows you around, but after that, you are expected to be familiar with the routines. Remember to have your crew card with you at all times!
Food is served in the crew dining room, commonly referred to as the "mess." The mess serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening/night meals at fixed times. Outside these times, food is always available. Please contact the staff if you have special dietary requirements.
