The ship's master is primarily responsible for safety and all operations onboard. Everyone in the crew has their own well-practised safety duty in case something should happen. The crew is divided into different groups consisting of command, fire, evacuation, lifeboat, medical, order, information, man overboard, leakage, and helicopter.
When you come on board, you will be assigned a safety number that indicates the duties you are responsible for in the event of a potential emergency. On the notice board in the mess hall, there is an alarm list where you can check your safety number. The alarm list also contains information about where your assembly station is during a general alarm and where your lifesaving station is in case of an abandon ship alarm. Along with the alarm list, there are maps of the ship. Check where your assembly station and lifesaving station are located and visit these locations on the ship.
Please remember your safety number and check the notice board in the mess hall when information about drills is posted. If your safety number is included in a drill, you must participate, regardless of whether you are on duty or not. However, inform your supervisor that you are scheduled for a safety drill. Remember that it is your responsibility to ensure you are present at safety drills at the designated time and place. Ask your supervisor if you have any questions or concerns about safety drills. Viking Line may also order safety training on shore at industry educational institutions.
The shore organisation also has emergency preparedness plans in place for crises. In an emergency, the alarm is transmitted to the shore organisation, which provides assistance and support to the ship. The shore organisation carries out its duties in accordance with an established crisis preparedness plan.
Note!
All safety training is mandatory.
