For each working day onboard, you earn one day off with pay (excluding officers). The work period usually lasts several consecutive days, followed by an equally long break (for example, a week on/week off). This is called a 1:1 relief system. Your leave period is intended for recovery from work so that you are alert, happy, and rested and can provide the Baltic Sea's best service during your next work period. Therefore, use this time for rest and recovery!
The length of the working day varies but averages 10.5 hours (does not apply to officers). The day is typically divided into several work shifts, each with breaks in between. The work shift hours are planned in advance, and you will receive a work schedule when you come on board, which indicates what times you will work and in which department. Overtime may be ordered.
Salary is paid in accordance with collective agreements between the maritime industry unions. You will receive a pay slip containing information about your salary, various compensations, deductions, and accrued leave. Please review the specifications and report any discrepancies to your supervisor promptly. In addition to your salary, you receive free tickets, entitling you to travel on our ships (one free ticket/15 days of employment).
